It’s that time of year my friend! The ghouls are out, the air is filled with that familiar energy, and the neighborhoods are packed with little trick-or-treaters. Yes, it’s Halloween! And for today, I want to give y’all a small yet highly important article questioning a long-time societal rule…
When you reach a certain age, you are too old to dress up. For Halloween or for cosplay.
What? How on earth does that make sense? How can you be too old for dressing up as your favorite character? I personally think this so called “rule” is hogwash. No matter how old you are, or even what you look like should it matter on dressing up for Halloween or even just for fun.
It gives you a thrill and makes you happy to look like the character you admire or may or may not have a fictional crush on, am I right? So, go do it! The fact that people say that once you reach a certain age you can’t cosplay or dress up is just a show of insecurity that they have. Or, it could possibly stem from them being told time and time again that they are “too old” for cosplay/costumes.
But, don’t let them rain on your parade! An amazing voice actor once said this at a panel I once went to: “Live your best life.” That statement couldn’t be truer. And if living your best life involves you being 45 and wanting to dress up like Black Widow or Natsu Dragneel, then go do it dammit!
It’s about how you feel when your having fun at a convention, taking photos, or heck, trick-or-treating. Not about some stupid Randoms whispering about how you look.
They’re just jealous that you’re rockin’ your costume/cosplay and they don’t have the guts to do the same.
So, go! Live your best life, and rock that cosplay no matter how old you are! And have an awesome Halloween!
Stay nerdy my friends!
