Hey everyone! Welcome to today’s Quotable How To! Where as usual I give a tutorial on how to do something cool. Whether it be for cosplay, or something simple like getting through a rough spot in a video game.
This week’s article is on how to make the cracked-face look for makeup. Generally used for cosplay looks. So let’s get to it shall we?
Step Number One: Prep your face.
This step is super important. Because a good foundation is important for every master piece. And that includes you my friend! So when you first start out, make sure your face is clean from all dirt and oils, then apply your foundation and concealer and make sure it’s smoothed out through your whole face. This will make it so the look you’re trying to achieve will look a lot smoother and even.
Step Number Two: Prep any extra characteristics.
If the character that you are cosplaying as has any other facial things such as different shaped/colored eyebrows, sharper nose line, thinner lips, etc. Make sure you do those first. Especially the eyeshadow and the eyeliner. Because if you don’t do these first, you will have a larger chance of smudging the hard work you’ve gone through to make the cracked face atheistic.
Step Number Three: Make the cracked lines and make it look like shattered glass.
This is the final step. It’s actually the easiest as well. It’s the easiest because since you are making the makeup look like cracked glass, you have plenty of creative license here. For example if you were to look at one piece of shattered glass and look at another piece, they wouldn’t be the same would they? Nope.
So, all you have to start with is where you want the lines to be, and start making jagged lines. I use liquid eyeliner because it makes the lines more striking and it’s easier to maneuver. But, you can use body paint and a simple brush too. (I’d recommend using Mehron for the body paint though, it works really well.)
And after you’ve drawn the lines, just darken in the areas with the color you want the “glass” to look like and voila! you have the look.
Below I show both a simple design and when you cover your whole face. You can go either way and no matter what it’ll look cool.
So that’s it! I hope this tutorial was helpful, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
