In light of the sports event that happened this weekend, a.k.a. the Super Bowl, I decided to do a Top Ten of my personal favorite sports anime. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of the Super Bowl–I mainly like it for the commercials, but sports do intrigue me especially when it comes to anime sports.
So lets get started shall we?
10. Slam Dunk
Ah Slam dunk, I remember watching this one a while ago. But, it’s still a really good basketball classic.
9. Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun
When this anime came out about two years ago, I was all over it. I mean it’s a soccer anime with a main character with an adorable quirk: He’s a germaphobe who constantly disappears to clean things–and himself. It’s an anime I highly recommend.
8. Cheer Boys
At first I wasn’t so sure about this anime, but after watching the first couple of episodes, I couldn’t help but think this anime was absolutely adorable!
7. Yowamushi Pedal
This one actually took me by surprise, at first I didn’t even think it would be good enough to get to the third episode, but boy, did this prove me wrong. It’s fast paced, intriguing, and the characters are…well, the best way I can explain these guys, is they are something else.
6. Big Windup!
Oh Big Windup, I need to re-watch this anime so badly. This was the first ever sports anime I ever watched. From the personalities of the characters, to how they work so hard to become a great team and rise up through each of their games. This anime had me cheering for each of the characters by the end.
5. Prince of Tennis
Where do I begin with this cocky tennis player? I loved the anime for the tennis matches, but also, it was for Ryoma. Although there were parts where I wanted to slap him.
4. Free! Eternal Summer
I know what most of you are going to say: This is only on the list for the fan service. Not at all…..ok, maybe a little bit. But it’s also on the list because I fell for this anime the second I heard the voices of my favorite voice actors–Vic Mignogna, J Michael Tatum, and Tod Habercorn. And it helps that the storyline was quite amazing.
Haikyuu, this is definitely my favorite volleyball anime. From Shoto to Tsukishima, to all of the different teams they go up against. Even all of the challenges the team faces as they grow to be the great team the once were.
2. Kuroko No Basuke
This basketball anime made me fan girl, cry, root for Seiren, and so much more. This anime just has a plethora of interesting characters. From the ones in Seiren, to the Generation of Miracles. I highly recommend this anime if your looking for an fun basketball anime.
Now last, but certainly not least……
1. Yuri on Ice!
*insert fan girl squeal here* When I saw this anime, boy oh boy, this has almost everything a girl could want: Adorable boyXboy relationships, beautiful animation, heartfelt story, and of course Ice skating! It is my favorite sports anime ever that’s why it gets the number one spot.
How did you guys like today’s Top Ten? Did you agree with it? Or do you guys think there should be other sports anime on the list?
