Character vs. Cosplay. Cosplay comparison. Side-by-Sides. Everyone in the cosplay world knows of at least one of these terms. It is where you take a picture of a character and copy there look as exact as you can, and post your picture of you in the cosplay along side the picture of the character. Thus, a Side-by-Side.
Now, why exactly are Side-by-Sides so popular?
Here’s my opinion. Side-by-Sides give both Cosplayers and fans of whatever fandom the Side-by-Side is from a chance to look at how well Cosplayers can bring to life the characters all of us love.
For example, how you do you feel when you see the picture of your favorite character, then next to it is an exact replica? But get this, it’s a real person.
Cosplay muse: That’s kind of the point of cosplay don’t ya think Shania?
What are you doing here?
Cosplay muse: Writ-y said you may need someone fun to play off of in your articles so I though I might provide some fun and witty repartee.
*sigh* Of course my writing muse would say that. Even though she could just come in and give input herself. Anyway, yes that is the point of cosplay. To bring happiness and reality to what we have seen on screens.
Cosplay muse: Ah, so that’s why Side-by-Sides are so popular on social media and occasionally prints. They bring to life our favorite characters and also give an artistic uniqueness to cosplay. It shows that cosplay can truly be a form of artwork and a great way to show your love for your favorite show or movie too.
Took the words right out of my mouth girlie. Basically you summed up why I–well I guess we, believe Side-by-Sides are so popular. Because of artistic awesomeness, making our love for unreal characters a reality, and bringing a smile to those who need a pick me up by just seeing their favorite character come to life.
Well, that’s all for now…
