Annnd we’re back again! the second episode of The Making Of: Arendelle’s Keyblade! I can’t tell you guys how excited I am to get this project finished. This Keyblade is going to beautiful!
And this time I actually got a lot done….well, a lot-ish. I defenitly still have a ways to go but getting the pattern traced and cut out for the first piece of the Keyblade is progress in my mind!
But boy, oh boy when you cut out large pieces out of 6mm EVA Foam, be prepared for a lot of foam fuzzies.
Cosplay muse: Uh, Shania…I don’t think they know what foam fuzzies are.
Oh hush. Give them a little credit I’m sure they do. Don’t ya guys?
Cosplay muse: *Picks at her fingers* Told ya so.
*Sighs* Well, not to worry! Foam fuzzies are the extra stuff that hangs off of EVA foam pieces that are cut. And since the Keyblade is being made to size, I had the pleasure of cutting, and picking off quite a few. That took me at least a good half hour to take care of. But it’s a process that every Foam smith/Cosplayer needs to go through.
Next up, came the heat sealing. And thank Kami this technique exists because it sealed every bumpy cut, left over fuzz, and made the foam look smoother!
Now all that’s left is:
- making the other Keyblade piece
- making the extra details
- repeating the de-fuzzing and heat sealing process
- creating the keychain
- and sealing it with a sealent
Cosplay muse: That’s a lot, you think you can accomplish all that before February is up?
Of course I can! You of all people–well if you think about it you’re not a person, but eh. The point is you should know this! You’re the one who gave me the idea for the Keyblade in the first place. Have a little faith girlie.
Cosplay muse: Just trying to challenge ya. You always work better under pressure.
Heh, yea I guess. Anyhoo! That’s it for this episode. Stayed tuned for the next article episode to see more progress on the Keyblade and more of my thought process as I go through this project.
Cosplay muse: She means me by the way. As in my input.
They know that already. So hush. Well, that’s all for now!
