I’m back at it again with this cosplay my friends! I would have posted about this sooner, but….a few unexpected occurrences had me going back to the drawing board.
Let’s see what those were eh?
Once I cut the pattern out on the fabric and sewed it–with help from my marvelous mom of course. I sadly am still learning the art of that mysterious needle ridden machine…
Anyways! Once it was sewn I proceeded to put it on to see how it would fit. And….it was too small.
So! I decided to stuff it with pillow stuffing, close up that part and pin it to my wig. You would think that would solve the problem beautifully right? I wish. When I filled the top part of the hat and inserted the bendable wire to keep the hat’s shape…it flopped right in front of my face.
It pinned well to the wig, but it was too top heavy and it didn’t look at all the way I wanted it too. And with cosplay–especially if it’s of my design, I’m quite picky.
I am considering turning the failed hat into an Oogie Boogie pillow though. Just so I don’t waste the already cut fabric. Maybe sometime soon too! That would be a cool prop or nerd merch.
So, with this failed attempt I went back to the drawing board and redesigned the entire cosplay!
Besides, that’s what makes Cosplay awesome doesn’t it? The freedom and ability to create and design the character that you adore and love how you interpret it. Whether it’s Alternate Universe style, or a Genderbend.
To create and interpret in our own artistic ways is what being an artist is all about! And I totally believe that we, as Cosplayers, are artists in our own right.
Slight tangent aside, I can’t wait to dive into making this revamped design. And I’m excited to show y’all the progress of it. From all the ups and downs, mistakes and victories, I’m going to share it all.
Well, that’s all for this episode. Until next time my friends!
